This old house has a great updated kitchen, though the all white and blue did not suit the client’s more modern and color-loving tastes.
Major changes to countertops and cabinetry are desired in the future, but for now, the look of the kitchen has been greatly improved by a coat of paint the color of sunrise, and by updating the lighting. We added rope lights above the cabinets and new fluorescent tubes under them, replaced the dated and unattractive overhead fluorescent light fixture over the island with a deep brown bamboo-and-linen pendent lamp — which was itself later replaced with a stainless steel pot rack/lighting combo, and the gold and glass bathroom type lighting over the sink with two blue Italian glass pendants — these were also later replaced with frosted glass pendants. The faucet has also been updated with a more modern style in a satin nickel finish, and all the old brass cabinet handles have been replaced with a slim modern design in satin nickel. The white appliances: refrigerator, stove, and microwave — were all replaced with newer and better stainless steel models. Finally, the back door to the small laundry hall has been replaced with a french door, and all the old-fashioned lace curtains have been replaced with roman shades in a light bamboo.
